A Remarkable Large 17th Century Carved and Pierced Oak Panel
The centre depicting a fulsome caryatid, or possibly a winged angel, bearing on her head a basket overflowing with fruit and opulent foliage. Down each side of the figure are further flamboyant scrolls, from which clusters of plump grapes hang. The panel sits within a deeply moulded frame.
A wonderfully exuberant piece of carving, probably part of an internal screen.
Fabulous colour and patina.
Dating from the last quarter of the 17th century, English or Flemish.
