A Remarkable Large 17th Century Carved and Pierced Oak Panel

The centre depicting a fulsome caryatid, or possibly a winged angel, bearing on her head a basket overflowing with fruit and opulent foliage. Down each side of the figure are further flamboyant scrolls, from which clusters of plump grapes hang. The panel sits within a deeply moulded frame.

A wonderfully exuberant piece of carving, probably part of an internal screen.

Fabulous colour and patina.

Dating from the last quarter of the 17th century, English or Flemish.

Height 39 inches, width 18 inches.
